Jackie Lymn Rose was born in Nottingham, England, and left school in 1974. She pursued a Certificate in Education at Birmingham University’s Faculty of Education from 1974 to 1977 while simultaneously studying embalming. In 1977, she qualified as an embalmer (MBIE) and subsequently spent a year teaching physical education at a girls’ secondary school. From 1978 to 1979, she worked as a peripatetic embalmer in Birmingham. In 1979, she gained a Diploma in Funeral Directing (Dip FD) and went on to work in the funeral industry at a management level for two corporate organizations in Birmingham from 1979 to 1991.
In 1983, she was accredited as a tutor for the National Association of Funeral Directors, and from 1988 to 1989, she served as the National President of the British Institute of Embalmers. In 1992, she joined A.W. Lymn The Family Funeral Service, a Nottingham-based company founded by her maternal grandfather and great-grandfather in 1907. She was subsequently appointed a director of the company, which now operates 29 funeral homes, one cemetery (with another under development), and a crematorium, conducting approximately 3,500 funerals per year.
From 1992 to 2004, she served as a field member for Kenyon International Emergency Services, specializing in mass disaster management worldwide. In 1994, she became an examiner for the National Association of Funeral Directors, a role she continues to hold. Since 2004, she has represented the British Institute of Embalmers at the Council of British Funeral Services (CBFS). In 2013, she was awarded a Fellowship to the British Institute of Embalmers (FBIE).
Beyond her contributions to the funeral industry, Jackie became a trustee for the YMCA Robin Hood Group in 2017. In 2019, she was honored with the Women in Business in Nottinghamshire Lifetime Achievement Award.
On a personal note, she has a partner but not a husband and no pets. She also obtained a Private Pilot’s License in 1999.
